Question and Answer Session was conducted during 5th lecture organized on 6th May 2020 by the experts Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas and Dr. Ruth Sabina Francis. Some of the questions remained unanswered during the lecture here are the replies to those questions:
Q1. What would be the pandemic effect on international and domestic placements, whether the placements will increase or decrease? (By Mr. Reddy)
Answer: As mentioned during the webinar the placements will bounce back eventually. Hence at this unprecedented time we will have to look for various opportunities to equip ourselves in various skills and competencies.
Q2. After effects of Covid on MICE tourism globally?
Answer: Tourism will not resume back immediately it will take time to recoup. Let’s talk about ourselves are we ready yet to travel to any destination be it domestic or international. Many tourism destinations, hotels, tourism sectors have been poised with a new challenge of complying to the new normal in hygiene and sanitization standards. With all these put in place tourism will revive back gradually by next year quarter 3 to quarter 4.
Q3. Most of the exhibitions planned in European countries have been cancelled will India take the advantage?
Answer: Even if India takes advantage provided the infrastructure is available in the nation. It is still very unsafe to comment that India can take advantage of this scenario given the Covid-19 positive cases rising in the nation. As highlighted in my webinar that “Confidence in uncertainty” needs to be provided by all tourism and hospitality centres then there is some opportunity there. Unless compulsory measures have been undertaken by the government and the tourism bureau it is difficult to overcome the fear instilled by the pandemic.
Q4. Do physical meetings and conferences also a part of MICE or only virtual meetings and conferences (Mr. Sahil)

Answer: The “new normal” poses a lot of challenges on all the tourism sectors especially to the MICE industry. The social distancing and the minimum optimization of venues will definitely be a challenge for the industry. MICE events cannot host more than a stipulated number of participants and international events will be challenged.

Answer: The new normal legal requirements for premises cleaning standards is the first action MICE organisers need to ensure when venues are booked and suppliers have to provide assurances and evidences that the said requirements are met.
Q7. What will be the condition of MICE after the pandemic, will people get back to physical seminars and meetings or most of the people would still continue with online seminars and virtual events as now most of the people are now used to it and comfortable with virtual events?.(Mr. Deepanshu)
Answer: Very true! The comfort of the virtual events will take a while to shift to the physical events. The MICE organizers have to sincerely leverage on their marketing concepts and ideas to create a paradigm shift from virtual to physical events. Sponsors, suppliers, intermediaries and the buyers all have to play their vital role in gaining the confidence back to physical meetings.
Q8. What could be done towards the safety and privacy of data of the users using virtual events? (Mr. Sahil)
Answer: Very crucial question. The MICE organizers have to play their responsible role in gathering the data and ensuring the data privacy. Once again the onus is on the MICE organizers to instill the confidence among the buyers / participants. The robust ROI reports generated through the data collected will maximize the visibility and at the same time ensure that the justice is done in maintaining the data privacy.
