“Tourism Globalization and Sustainability of Destinations”
International Web Lecture Series in Tourism and Hospitality (Lecture 16)
“Tourism Globalization and Sustainability of Destinations” was the title of the 16th lecture delivered by Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, University of Jammu, India, and Prof. Bada Mohamed, School of Housing Building and Planning, University Sains Malaysia held on 20th June 2020 (Saturday) at 1.00 pm (IST). The participants registered for this lecture, included top academicians, students, and research scholars of various countries like Egypt, UAE, Kazakhstan, Philippines, Malaysia, and India. This "International Web Lecture Series in Tourism and Hospitality" is an initiative taken by Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, University of Jammu along with Dr. Ramjit, Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir, India and Mr. Nikhil Singh Charak, Assistant Professor, Ambedkar University, New Delhi, India.
At the onset, Mr. Nikhil Singh Charak welcomed all the participants and the experts and gave a brief introduction about both the experts and coordinators of the International Web Lecture Series. Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas initiated the session's proceedings by welcoming the Co-speaker of the session Prof. Bada Mohamed & all participants and coordinators of the event.
The first speaker of the lecture was Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas who shared his valuable thoughts with the participants on the theme. He appraised the participants about the latest updates about Covid-19 and tourism and also deliberated upon the initiatives taken by the countries in mitigating the effects of tourism and also regarding the bubble concept to make the strong partnerships amongst various countries for innovative and sustainable tourism. He discussed the future of sustainable tourism, future resilience, and digitalization. Furthermore, he also apprised the participants about the various incentives such as sustainable development strategies and the development of civil society for a sustainable tourism approach. Prof. Parikshat discussed about the Obstacles and Incentives to Sustainable Development of Destinations Globally. He discussed the Accelerative Approach and Principles of Sustainable Development of Destinations & Tourism Globalization.
Prof. Bada Mohamed, in his address, talked about the importance of economic sustainability and spoke about the latest challenges faced by the tourism and hospitality industry due to the Covid 19. He also discussed regarding the new normal and the blessings in disguise for the tourism industry due to Covid 19 in terms of reduction in over-tourism. He also presented various historical facts about the history of tourism in Malaysia. He also spoke about the challenges ahead for the tourism sector in terms of 4th Industrial Revolution, lastly, he discussed regarding the monopoly of foreign companies on local tourism in Malaysia and the importance of local communities to make the tourism survive at the regional level
Questions & Answers followed the session by the experts Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas & Prof. Bada Mohamed, who responded and constructively answered the participants' various questions. In the end vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ramjit, Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir, India.
