International Web Lecture Series in Tourism and Hospitality (Lecture 13)
“Tourism & SDGs: Pre & Post COVID-19 Perspective”
13th Lecture titled “Tourism & SDGs: Pre & Post COVID Perspective” was delivered by Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, University of Jammu, India, and Dr. S. Mustafa Rasoolimanesh, Taylors University on 3rd June 2020 (Wednesday) at 1.00 pm (IST). There were 113 participants registered for this lecture, including top academicians, students, and research scholars of various countries like Jakarta, Philippines, Nepal, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Hungary, and India. This "International Web Lecture Series in Tourism and Hospitality" is an initiative taken by Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, University of Jammu along with Dr. Ramjit, Department of Tourism Studies, Central University of Kashmir, India and Mr. Nikhil Singh Charak, Assistant Professor, Ambedkar University, New Delhi, India.
To begin with, Dr. Ramjit welcomed and gave a brief introduction about both the experts and coordinators of the International Web Lecture Series. Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas initiated the session's proceedings by welcoming the Co-speaker of the session, Dr. S. Mustafa Rasoolimanesh & all participants and coordinators of the event.
The first speaker of the lecture was Prof. Parikshat Singh Manhas, who started his address with essential facts given by UNWTO and also shared his views on the theme of the topic and highlighted the various measures adopted by the multiple destinations during COVID-19. He also introduced the different concepts of sustainability and SDGs and emphasized upon important SDGs like No poverty and quality education for all. He discussed about the linkages between Tourism and SDG’s and also emphasized on their importance for the Tourism and Hospitality industry. He further stressed that the Blue economy might play an essential role in overcoming this pandemic if oceans managed sustainably.
Dr. S. Mustafa Rasoolimanesh, in his address gave a brief history and origin of sustainability and stressed upon the fact that the sustainability goals should be aligned to SDGs goals. He impressed upon the fact that Public policy needs coherent dialogue amongst all stakeholders. He said due to the integrated nature of the SDGs, the various interrelations allow for combined efforts at all sectorial and spatial levels to optimize progress towards the SDGs. He stressed that there is an urgent need an integrated set of indicators (subjective and objective) based on SDGs:
